Q how do i stay motivated. Im not getting good grades at university but i need good grades. Does any of this matter. I'm trying. I could do more. But more is not coming out of me. How do i stay motivated.Whats in a future.what makes a future (Anonymous)

concretekids:

"Need good grades" for why? I’m not bashing on the idea of school or grades; I strive for the best of both myself, but my intention and desire entering that gauntlet is very clear and straightforward for me. It’s not so much as "wanting something bad enough", as all the stupid motivational books will say, it’s why you want it.

Are you doing Uni for you? For your family? For the terrifying satiation of a (possibly bc idk where yr from) capitalist system that’s virtually guaranteed to hang you out to dry if you don’t? Even at their crux, these things will not be done “for other people” unless you want to do them. You are the sole motivator of your motion, and guess what, friend: It’s okay to be unmotivated. In fact, it’s pretty damn regular. You’re not alone in this. I’ve spent over two years outside of school for various reasons, financial and otherwise, but I’d be lying outright if I didn’t admit that partly I just did not want to be there, and I know empirically that I am far from the only other one. If I were you, I’d look into time off, or if study abroad is a viable option, I’d look to that. Stagnacity in university systems is rife and upsetting, and those places are often hotbeds of demotivation for sensitive folk, be it biased profs, shitty cultures on campus, or just the ever-hanging burden of debt/finance/THE FUTUREEEEEE you have to address when you’re out of school.

I think the most important thing in all of this is that you take care of you first.

I don’t know what’s in a future, or what makes one. I don’t know how to do that. Right now I’ve committed to and am booking an excursion for ten months away, and that’s literally the farthest into the future I’ve ever planned. I don’t know what to tell you about that except that you can’t make a future if you aren’t okay. So be okay. Take a bubble bath and light some candles and put on some sad (or happy!) music. Turn off the lights. Close your eyes. FUckin breathe. Cry. Masturbate. Whatever feels like it puts the weight off. If you can’t take a bubble bath, find a river. If you can’t find a river, find a nice patch of ground in the shade somewhere and listen to the sounds of where you are. Even a city can sound like home if you let it. Even a desert can sound familiar. Good luck, y o

We’re adults, but, like…adult cats. Someone should probably take care of us, but we can sort of make it on our own.
